Client Stories
Testimonials and project notes from owner-led firms who worked with Poplarfield Advisory on positioning and messaging.
Testimonials
Our hardware store has been on the same corner since 1987. The competitive brief showed three chains using nearly identical “professional tools” language. We rewrote our window copy to emphasise same-day sharpening and trade accounts—language our father actually used at the counter. Foot traffic did not spike, but trade counter revenue rose noticeably in the quarter after we changed the signs.
— Wu Chia-lung, Wu Family Hardware, Banqiao
The workshop days felt intense. James pushed us to drop “premium” from every sentence because we could not define it. That stung a little. Still, our new positioning line fits what our baristas say when regulars ask about our beans. We are using it on cups now.
— Andrea Koh, single-origin café, Yongkang Street
Messaging audit caught that our English website promised “holistic wellness” while the reception desk script focused on insurance billing codes. Aligning those took a week of staff meetings we had postponed for years. I wish the report had included sample scripts in Traditional Chinese, but the English framework was enough for us to adapt internally.
— Dr. Huang Yi-ting, integrative medicine clinic, Neihu
We hired Poplarfield before opening a second bakery location. The landscape brief highlighted that every competitor led with price per piece. We positioned the new shop around fermentation time instead. Opening month sales tracked above our spreadsheet, though we cannot isolate positioning from location luck.
— Tsai Ming-feng, artisan bakery group, Taichung
Project note: Da’an district physiotherapy clinic
Situation — A 12-therapist clinic with strong hospital referrals but weak walk-in identity. Signage listed every treatment modality; new patients asked if they were “the sports injury place” or “the posture place.”
Engagement — Messaging audit plus a condensed one-day workshop.
Field observations — Two competitors within 400 metres used nearly identical stock imagery of running athletes. The clinic’s actual walk-ins were office workers with desk-related pain.
Outcome — Positioning shifted to “desk-work recovery for Zhongshan and Da’an professionals.” Reception script, Google Business description, and hallway posters now open with that phrase. Walk-in bookings rose over three months; the owner attributes part of that to clearer signage, part to a referral partnership started independently.
Reservation — The clinic’s owner noted our initial draft leaned too clinical. One revision cycle focused on warmer language matching how senior therapists speak to patients.
Project note: Night-market adjacency snack brand
Situation — A packaged snack brand sold at night markets and convenience stores. Owners planned wholesale expansion but pitched “Taiwanese tradition” identically to five shelf neighbours.
Engagement — Competitive landscape brief with site visits to three night-market stalls.
Outcome — Brief identified that competitors emphasised heritage visuals but not sourcing transparency. The brand’s positioning moved to “single-farm sweet potato, named on every bag.” Packaging redesign was handled by their existing designer using our one-page messaging guide.
